And what is probably an unprecedented move in modern corporate history, Ford announced that they would cut the company in half: the legacy thermic-engine automaking part promised a slow and painful death, and the electric-car part that might survive the future.

They aren't as blunt as I am, but this is clearly what is going on—sacrificing their current core business because they never wanted to cannibalize it a little during the last ten years to have a smoother transition, maybe.

We always think that large corporations play 3D chess with their strategy. Often they play by ear, quarter after quarter until they have to push the panic button.
