I've been quite busy these last weeks and have had to cut in my writing and posting time quite a bit. Let's jump back into it by sharing what held me up so much: designing an effective Organic Growth framework for Saint Gobain global teams.

The notion of Organic Growth has surfaced frequently lately in my professional network, and many industries seem to be asking this very difficult question: How could we unlock operational profits, EBIT, or any other measure of significant growth (i.e., not just sales) without sinking major investments into a new strategy? No surprise here. Times are certainly hard, and nothing seems to indicate any reprieve yet—cough, geopolitics, cough. As I am currently leading several teams of top executives from various backgrounds and regions, I thought it would be interesting to share some elements of my take on this thorny problem.

If there are certainly many ways to go about planning for organic growth, my starting point is oftentimes to have a map of the territory before exploring.

What organic growth directions can you explore from your current main business?

Some of these terms (bundle, unbundle, upsell, cross-sell, pivot) are definitely familiar to you, while others (leapfrog, down-sell) might be less so.

The issue is that the ones you are familiar with are mostly loosely defined as general ideas. Bundling offers together is a familiar business strategy, after all. Or is it? Could you define precisely the strategy involved? The potential key opportunities to unlock while seeking precise upsides and mitigating probable downsides?
