Many times over, I've been discussing the central roles of network effects for the digital economy and how/why they now reign supreme on top of the business food chain. I realize, though, that I never explained their Achille's heel, or only briefly.

Without going back to the previous elements I explained, you have to keep in mind that network effect-based businesses become unstoppable forces when they start to click together past a critical mass.
